Helpless Baby Breakfast

(For the time crunched: There’s something that sorta passes as a recipe at the very bottom of this post.) When it comes to food, I’m as sharp as a box of marbles. You know those people that can just look at a scorzonera and get pregnant inspired? That’s not me. I’m not a cook. Actually, [...]

Santa Feggs

Preamble: This post was delayed by an hour because I don’t have the heart to tell binocular-wearing elderly men at Starbucks that I already know about the various gangs dictating the workings of the New Jersey judicial system. #TheSopranosAreOnNetflix. Postamble: (Get it? Is that a pun?) In the last week my region has suffered an [...]

Kitchen Scandal Frittatas

The cabinet that houses my older pots & pans reminds me of a Hollywood prison holding cell. I’ve got a Paris Hilton (shallow old saucepan), a Charlie Sheen (cracked pot) and a few Lohans (these are just scratched, stained and darn near used up). But dang it, I love them all. I refuse to throw [...]

Gastro-Tourism: The Hubbernation Issue

Kind of like Sports Illustrated: The Swimsuit Issue. Yes? Equally awesome? So let’s pretend “Best. Week. Ever.” is ONE word, so I can say: “If I had to pick ONE WORD to describe this week, it would be: BestWeekEver.” Having the Cavehusband home has refreshed my love for cooking and for enjoying Primal eating. I [...]

Paleo Eggheads

I’ve scratched out another prophetic cave drawing for Steve’s Original – this time on my favorite SuperFood, Kashi! Just kidding. But have you heard that Kashi now has as much protein as an egg?   Badly executed Paintbrush drawings aside, I’m impressed that Kashi has the Cojones (pardon my French) to make a statement comparing [...]

The Lonely Tailgaters

Quick post before I begin hyperventilating about the fact that it’s SNOWING outside on my CH’s scheduled return-from-deployment date. In an effort to head off the irrational snow-air travel paranoia that begins bubbling up at the first precip sighting (inevitably leading to a pre-10 AM bottle – er, glass – of Cab), I decided to [...]

Quick Turkey Hash

I don’t know what the technical definition of “Hash” is, but today’s SAT prep defines it like this: Turkey Hash : Christmas CaveGirl :: Breadsticks at the Olive Garden : Carb Addict. (My name is Cave Girl, and I’m a Holiday-aholic.) Christmas CaveGirl watched A Christmas Story back-to-back EIGHT times. She watched It’s A Wonderful Life [...]

Breakfast makes me happy.

Easily my favorite breakfast in recent memory. My meal plan called for avocado, sweet potato and bacon this morning, but the avocado opened up like cheap Missouri wine, so I added a blob of coconut oil to the sweet potato for extra fat. A nice mug of Cave Girl Cafe coffee rounded it all out.

Jeff Goldblum, Brett Farve, et. Al.

Breakfast and lunch yesterday were leftover Root Vegetable Hash and Lemon-basil chicken with asparagus. Dinner was…interesting. The coconut chicken curry recipe I adapted from Mark’s Daily Apple Primal Blueprint Cookbook was pretty flawless, but apparently when you watch your first-ever half-hour of The Food Network immediately before cooking dinner you get an over-inflated sense of [...]

My Squashy Side.

There are some mornings when breakfast and lunch spring from the same inspiration. As we settle into fall, all I can think about is winter squash – acorn, butternut, spaghetti squash, and the always delightful pumpkin (gluten-free pumpkin loaf cookoff on the way this weekend)! Today began with a very appreciative moment between myself and [...]
